  • Write to the kennel Mysigonek (Karolina Patalan) or Pink Phantom (Kalina Koriat) with a request to learn and prepare to become a breeder.
  • Read the articles on https://hiiret.fi/eng/ (especially the "breeding" tab) and articles on our site.
  • Prepare a breeding starter kit (detailed information on the equipment you need will give you Karolina Patalan and Kalina Koriat).

After an initial conversation with us and reading the pages/articles we indicate, you will be given a simple test of basic knowledge. If you manage to pass it, your mentor will be a breeder with proper experience. There will be a course on the knowledge of mice, breeding, you will define breeding goals and decide which lines interest you the most. You will learn how to select mice and match breeding pairs. How to take care of the mother with the litter and how to prepare the litter for adult life in the best possible way.

We provide substantive support, access to proven breeding lines, in many color varieties and care for you, as well as regular transfer of knowledge. You will be able to contact us in case of any doubts or problems in breeding.

Requirements and assumptions of registered breeders

PEDIGREES AND SALE OF RODENTS

  1. The breeder is obliged to write a mouse pedigree at the request of the new owner;
  2. The breeder has the right to sell his animal for any price.
  3. Animals purchased from a breeder must be shipped in ethical, animal-safe ways.
  4. The association is not responsible for the animals sold by the breeder, but in the case of frequent reports of diseases, parasites or animal aggression, it can take a closer look at the situation.

MOUSE WELFARE

The breeder must take care of the well-being of his animals and provide them with decent breeding conditions:
  • minimum 40x30cm for mating, breeding males, pregnancy and rearing, quarantine. Recommended dimensions from 50x30cm to 60x40cm,
  • Containers and conditions as described in the "Breeders Starter Kit" article on the association's website,
  • breeder should know the methods of humane euthanasia and, if necessary, euthanize animals in need,
  • in case of large litters, the breeder should ensure that all pups are adequately fed and react appropriately in the event of insufficient milk,
  • regular deworming of all mice (e.g. once a year) and testing for parasites at least once every six months,
  • breeder should make sure mice are sold to proper houses with good care.

LITTERS

  1. A female should have 2, maximum 3 pregnancies in her lifetime. She should not be bred after finishing a year.
  2. It is recommended that there are 4-6 pups in a litter, maximum 8. With a larger number, urgent observation of the litter is necessary to ensure that the pups do not starve.
  3. Each female should rest for at least a month after raising a litter.
  4. There should be no situation where males live too long in one container and fierce fights ensue.

KNOWLEDGE

  • A breeder should possess basic knowledge about rodent breeding and their welfare.
  • Every breeder should be familiar with the fundamentals of genetics, including:
    • Understanding the behavior of specific genes.
    • Knowing the most important loci and their functions.
    • Having knowledge about inheritance and gene dominance.
In case of a lack of knowledge, the registered rodentry will be placed under mentorship with one of our mentors, and the mousery name will only be registered after completing the training.
